Tartar removal

Tartar removal is performed with mechanical and manual instruments. Manual scalers and curettes are applied together with the manual instruments. The mechanical instruments include powder jet devices (Prophyjet, Air-flow). They are used to remove severe stains caused for drugs (chlorhexidine), tobacco, drinks (tea) for example.

Ultrasound devices are available for tartar and concrement removal. They are predominantly distinguished in the strength of their oscillations. After every tartar removal or dental cleaning, the tooth surfaces are smoothened with a rubber polisher and fluoride containing polishing paste.
