Retention and relocation of teeth
The characterising symptom of retention and relocation is the clearly extended time period of the tooth germ in the jaw way beyond its usual breakthrough period. If the germ deviates from its position, this is called relocation, if not it is known as retention.
Apart from the wisdom teeth, the upper canines are frequently affected. The therapeutical concept should weigh the removal of retained or relocated teeth against the attempt of orthodontal integration.
